How is Amazon changing review sharing across product variations?

Amazon says that starting February 12, 2026, reviews will only be shared between variations with minor differences that do not affect functionality. Reviews will no longer be shared across variations with more significant differences, and Amazon says the rollout will continue by category through May 31, 2026.

In Amazon’s announcement about review sharing across product variations, the company says reviews will continue to be shared when variation differences are minor and do not affect functionality. Amazon also says reviews will stop being shared across variations with more significant differences, which may change visible star ratings and review counts for some product families.

Which variation types will still share reviews?

Amazon says in the same announcement that review sharing will continue for variation relationships such as:

  • color or pattern variations of the same product
  • size variations that maintain the same function, such as queen and king versions of the same bedding product
  • pack size or quantity variations
  • secondary scent variations for products where scent is not the main differentiator
  • different model fitments for the same product type, such as phone cases for different device models

What kinds of variations may stop sharing reviews?

Amazon says in its announcement that reviews will no longer be shared when variation differences are significant enough to affect how the product functions or how customers experience it.

That means sellers should expect the biggest changes on variation families where the products are grouped together but are not meaningfully the same product in a customer’s eyes.

When do the changes take effect?

Amazon says the rollout begins on February 12, 2026 and continues by product category through May 31, 2026, according to the announcement.

Amazon also says sellers will receive an email notification 30 days before changes affect their products.

What does Amazon recommend sellers do now?

Amazon says in the announcement that sellers should review their variation setup in Manage All Inventory and make sure variation themes match the real product differences.

In practical terms, that means checking whether a variation relationship is being used for the right reason. Amazon’s example is simple: use a color variation for a color difference, not for a quantity difference.

Can reviews be re-shared after a variation theme is updated?

Amazon says in the announcement that if sellers need to update variation themes after the change takes effect, reviews will be re-shared for eligible products.

That does not mean every variation family will regain shared reviews. It means Amazon may re-share reviews again when the updated relationship fits its eligibility rules.
